Sarah Cohen

Reflexologist

Reflexology, many of us have heard about it, but are not totally sure what it really is. In a nutshell it’s a practice where pressure is applied to various points on the soles of your feet and hands with specific techniques.

Sarah says “After 10 years working as a commercial lawyer, I decided that I needed a positive change in my life –  I wanted to learn a new skill, help people and spend more time with my young children.  I am passionate about Reflexology and a great believer in the positive effects it has on the mind.”

She trained at the London School of Reflexology with the renowned Louise Keet. Once  qualified in February 2019, she quickly set up ‘Sarah Reflexology’, and hasn’t looked back since!

As she explains, “Reflexology can be beneficial to help relax the mind and stimulate the body into healing itself by improving circulation, reducing stress and pain and restoring natural balance. I see clients to help manage various conditions e.g. stress, anxiety, digestive conditions, migraines, insomnia, aches and pains in the body etc.”

Sarah is a specialist in pre-conceptual and pregnancy reflexology and has a real interest in this area. Helping clients at all stages of pregnancy with symptoms such as sickness, reflux, hormone imbalances, lower back/hip pain etc.  Seeing clients in later pregnancy to help relax the body and prepare mentally and physically for labour.  She also sees clients who are trying to conceive, to help with relaxing the body and rebalancing hormones.

When did you decide to retrain as a Reflexologist?

After my second maternity leave, I went back to the legal world but I wasn’t happy. I wasn’t being the mother that I so wanted to be. I was rarely around for bedtimes and if I was around, then I was tired and stressed. On the weekends, my body was with the girls but I wasn’t present – my mind was on the legal work for the coming week. I knew I needed to make a change. I wrote down on a piece of paper what I wanted – to be the best Mummy I can be, to help others, to take a break from the corporate world, to run my own small business and be in charge of my own time.

Could you tell us where reflexology comes from?

There is evidence of reflexology being practiced in China as long ago as 2330 B.C. and also at the same time in Egypt. Also, the North American tribes of Indians are known to have practiced a form of foot therapy for hundreds of years. Reflexology is a natural therapy which involves the application of gentle pressure to the reflex areas on the feet. These reflexes in the feet correspond to different organs of the body.  Reflexology brings about a state of relaxation and stimulates the body’s own healing process.

Who should get reflexology?

Anyone! As long as you don’t mind your feet being touched! I see clients to help manage various conditions e.g. stress, anxiety, digestive conditions, migraines, insomnia, aches and pains in the body etc. or just for general relaxation and wellbeing. I also have a pre-conceptual, pregnancy and post-natal qualification and I love to help women who are trying to convince or during their pregnancy journey.

What can people expect from one of your sessions?

The first treatment starts with an initial confidential consultation, including medical history, any current conditions, diet and lifestyle, so we can devise an effective treatment plan.  Every treatment is bespoke to suit the needs of the individual.  During the treatment, one can expect to feel relaxed and it is a time for the client to unwind from the stress of everyday life.  After a treatment one should feel less tense and rebalanced and find their mood and sense of wellbeing improved.

What’s one common piece of advice that you give to clients to help them take care of their wellbeing?

Take time to recharge your batteries and do something for yourself as often as you can.

How would your friends best describe you?

Organised, loyal and always looking round corners for a new adventure.

How do you wind down on the weekends?

We are always out exploring new places – we love a food market or exploring another area of London. Then of course there is taking the girls to their various sports classes and friends parties.

Cocktails or glass of wine?

Wine (and the occasional Bloody Mary)

What is your motto in life?

Live every day as if it was your last.

We talked to local reflexologist and pregnancy/pre-conceptual reflexologist Sarah Cohen, to get to know her and this practice a little more.
